We felt this was resulting in a scene cluttered with extremes, with one side of the spectrum of nothing but empty club singles, not producing anything of substance, and overly abstract and non relatable indi coffee house scene on the other end, the main thing each having in common with the other being a lack of direction and concept. When D walked away from music to focus on other things, me and Ty took up in the vein of a premiere / guru or pete rock cl smooth traditional combo that didnt really exist in the scene at the time. It was Damien who introduced me and Ty specifically because he thought Ty's lyricism and delivery would be a good fit for my production style, so without his foresight this album may have never come to be. Initially D Lost was a full member as is noted by his co-production credits on the Drug War Soldiers era bonus tracks, and was intended to be a more reserved foil for the energy of King Thai.

In the years after this project, Ty moved with his family to Brooklyn and began his work with Villaination and ROTV, as well as becoming a published author, and I stayed in Nashville as a resident DJ at Anthem and joined Disco Terror Squad with Jane Dupree, but Contrabandits as a group never broke up or transformed from what it was intended to be - a throwback to the golden era of hip hop with a dedicated producer & DJ backing up skilled lyricist. Originally, me and Ty were planning a formal 9 year anniversary re-release, which would have been in September of 2018 just a few short months after his tragic and unexpected passing.
